Topic: An Update On Statewide Oak Decline Project, and Projections For Pest and Disease Issues For 2024
Description: In this presentation, we will provide the latest results, and future plans for the on-going statewide oak decline project that was initiated in 2023 including ELISA testing for presence of fungal root rots, and edaphic factors associated with declining oaks both in urban forests, landscapes, and rural forests.
Looking ahead to the 2024 field season, we will discuss the emergence of the 17-year periodical cicada, an update on the spotted lanternfly (SLF), population trends for marginally hardy insects, such as the bagworm and the effect of the January arctic outbreak, potential impact of the 2023 drought on outbreaks of bark beetles and borers, menacing scale insects, and a brief review of spongy moth population dynamics, surveying, and potential spread. There will be time at the end of the presentation to allow for questions and discussion of other important PHC issues.
