New Advancements: Using Smart Tree Inventories
Our world and urban forestry are rapidly changing with the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). As a result, tree inventories and approaches to tree assessment are evolving from the early days of pen and paper to the world of AI and ML. By combining these technologies, urban foresters can transform tree inventories from a snapshot-in-time updated once a decade to digital copies of every tree that are updated every other year. Join us for a discussion of how this technology works and potential applications in urban forestry. We’ll also demonstrate how smart tree inventories can provide practitioners with a greater ability to manage their urban forests for tree equity, risk management, and urban heat islands. If desired, stick around for an afternoon field demonstration of the equipment, vehicle, and sensors used to collect smart tree inventory data.
The meeting will be split into two sessions (afternoon is optional) and lunch will be provided courtesy of Davey Resource Group.
1. Morning Session: 9:30-12:00pm – Inside Presentation
2. Lunch: 12:00-12:30
3. Afternoon Session (Optional): 12:30-2:30 – Outside Field Demonstration
