Topic: Biochar and trees: What we know, what we don’t know… and what do you want to know?
Speaker: Dr. Meghan Midgley is the Director of the Center for Tree Science and a soil ecologist at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL
Description: Biochar is an increasingly popular soil amendment in urban tree care and arboriculture, but there is limited research on the effects of biochar on trees. In this talk, I will highlight current understanding of how biochar impacts trees and gaps in the literature and provide suggestions for biochar applications. I also seek your input – what should researchers focus on moving forward to optimize the use of biochar in arboriculture and urban forestry?
