We will be talking about “Woodland Restoration: It starts with removals…”
Today, the process of ecological restoration in woodlands and savannas often begins with the removal of invasive species, such as Japanese honeysuckle and common buckthorn. It may also include the removal of, or thinning of, secondary growth species that have established due to fire suppression. We will be discussing the natural history of Illinois woodlands and savannas, the ecological threats posed by invasive species and human intervention, the process for restoration and will touch on some of the most current research that is either being conducted or that has been completed regarding the impact of woody invasive species on woodlands and the restoration process.
