Northwest Municipal Foresters Meetings

October 22, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Speakers: Steve Lane and Phil Graf, Graf Tree Care

Topic: Tech Plan for Reforestation
Now that most of your Ash trees are down, it’s time to begin or continue recovery. How should you plant for the future? Steve and Phil from Graf Tree and Natural Resource will go over a few case studies and reforestation strategies which examine “right tree, right site”, but also how to manage planting trees through time. We will focus on taxonomic diversity, spatial diversity, and age-class diversity, and how they can be realistically achieved without breaking the bank. Long term, targeted strategies will be discussed, including nursery shortages, real-life examples of contract growing and in-house growing, dealing with weather woes, and some emerging Best Management Practices when it comes to species selection and how your Urban Forest.

You do not have to work for a municipality to attend! Anyone involved in the tree industry is welcome. Each meeting is worth 2 CEUs for those members who are certified.

Registration is between $5-$12 and covers the cost of dinner. Receipts will be given upon request. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the meal, please let us know. In an effort to help us determine set up as well as improve the process of ordering food, please RSVP. This indicates your intention to stay for food and payment is expected at the door. If you are only interested in the talk and do not intend to participate in the dinner, the registration fee will be waived, provided you state so at the time of RSVP.

Comments/suggestions about future talks are always welcome. Additionally, we are always looking for new communities to host the meetings and sponsors to provide lunch. Please e-mail April Toney at april@illinoisarborist.org if you are interested.
