Title: Feller!
Speaker: Nick Kuhn
Description: The Forest Preserves of Cook County has been using chainsaws since they were first invented. On the job training happened by being handed a saw and allowed to use it while others watched. As an industry, we have all certainly improved since then. As such staff became more concerned with safety and with the inclusion of allowing volunteers to use chainsaws this meant they needed a formal training process. Similar to the USFS, they developed a class and field training system which has evolved into a three-level ranking which they now utilize for staff and volunteers. Nick will discuss how this training program works and how it is a successful component to the District’s safety training programs.
