Topic: Planning for Community Trees: Chicago’s Urban Forest Management Plan
Description: While many municipal arborists and urban foresters fundamentally know what needs to be done in their community, forestry is not practiced in a vacuum. Tree management plans, urban forest plans, and similar strategies are not only a great tool to help prioritize and budget for key forestry activities, they’re also important communication tools to build support and justify crucial investment in your operations. Using Chicago’s 2023 Urban Forest Management Plan as an example, we’ll discuss best practices in the development of community tree management plans and strategies, the process to develop such a plan, and how Chicago’s plan has been used to advance the City’s forestry program.
