JOB SUMMARY:

The Village is currently accepting applications for the position of Public Works Employee I. This is a Full-Time position that involves performing manual tasks and semi-skilled equipment operation in the Village’s Public Works Department. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance activities on streets, landscaped areas, facilities, and utility systems throughout the Village. This position reports to the Street Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Respond to emergency call-out work situations 24 hours a day. This position performs snow plowing, snow removal, and salting operations along with street sweeping, curb inlet repair/replacement/cleaning, utility locations, pavement restorations, leaf pick-up activities, and roadway shoulder maintenance. The position performs general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and public works facilities as required. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to operate specialized motor vehicles and equipment as well as assist other Public Works departments/divisions in their daily and emergency operations and activities as well as other duties as assigned. All functions of this position Must perform work in accordance with departmental and Village’s safety policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school with diploma, experience with hand and power tools and possession of a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B are required. Three years of experience within a local government preferred with proficiency in manual tasks and semi-skilled equipment operation. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, multi-tasking abilities, excellent oral and written communications skills as well as a strong dedication to customer service.

 SELECTION:

Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, and qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen.
