NEMF Meeting – A Field and Lab Tour of the New Plant Development Program at Morton Arboretum

October 25, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Date: Thursday, October 25, 2018
Time: 10:00-12:00pm
Title: A Field and Lab Tour of the New Plant Development Program at Morton Arboretum
Summary:  Learn about the ongoing work of the Morton Arboretum’s breeding program while touring the newly renovated research lab and the ever-evolving Tree Breeding Nursery. The new tree and shrub breeder, Kim Shearer, will be providing a guided tour of breeding projects, plants in the pipeline, and Chicagoland Grows(R) trees on the grounds of the Morton Arboretum.
Speaker:  Kim Shearer
Location:  The Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, IL 60532.  Note: Park at the Visitor Center and then head to the tram circle, you will be picked up there.  We plan to depart the tram circle by 10:15a.  That should give everyone plenty of time to get from the parking lot to the tram, etc.  The tour will include the Tree Breeding Nursery, background on the New Plant Development Program and Chicagoland Grows, and a visit to the new lab.  And for those who want to hang out afterward, I’ll point out some spots on our map where some of the original trees for a couple of our introductions are located on the west side of the Arboretum.
Cost: Lunch will be on your own.
Please RSVP: Email April Toney at april@illinoisarborist.org or call 877-617-8887.
